There is nothing quite like experiencing the personality of a newly-formed model team. Each model team is different and very unique. I really do enjoy seeing my senior models get together, laugh, and start to form friendships that will last their senior year in high school and beyond! This year, these ladies had to wait a few months between the ‘you’re on the team’ announcements and when I had scheduled their first group photoshoot. So they decided to get together for lunch at Olive Garden and then a shopping trip to the mall to pick out outfits for the first Model Team Photoshoot. Seeing those stories pop up on my Instagram made me smile from ear to ear! This is what senior model teams are really about, beyond all the photos, marketing, outfits, and promotional things. Deep down, model teams are about the friendships that these ladies will form and the confidence it will give them to learn skills that are needed in the real world.
The selection process for the Class of 2021 Senior Model Team was even harder than in previous years. I received so many wonderful and amazing applications from then juniors in high school who were looking for the most from their senior year. From the application to the finalization process, I said “welcome!” to twelve wonderful, happy, energetic, smart, beautiful, outgoing, kind, encouraging (the list really could go on here….) ladies; and I could not be more excited for what this next year will bring us all in the model team journey. Here are some snippets from the applications this year:
“I started a junior board of directors for the Alzheimer’s association…”
“I love God, I am very active in my church group, and I love to serve wherever I can!”
“I have never been a model or promoted a business but I am a hard worker and I know I can succeed at anything I put my mind to!”
“I am Latina with a Salvadoran and Mexican background! I love just having a great time with my friends and family whether it’s relaxing at each other’s houses, listening to old throwback songs while singing at the top of our lungs, or going out to eat!”
“My biggest honor is that I am part of the first early college high school at school. It is helping me to earn my associates degree by the time I graduate high school.”
“I love making people happy and being that light they need in their life! I look for positivity in all things that I do and I treat others the way I would want to be treated.”
“I am a member and captain of the dance team and pom team. I’m a member of the volleyball team, track team, student council and co-president, the national honors society, leadership, and I’m a member of the school district superintendent student council.”
“I am a part of my school’s varsity show choir group. I compete in the Miss Oklahoma’s Outstanding Teen pageant system and I am going to state this summer.”
“My favorite quote is ‘If you can dream it, you can do it.’”
“I have been singing since I could talk and I have a passion for special needs kids. I know my purpose is to use these gifts God gave me for those amazing kids so I plan to major in Musical Therapy in college.”
“I am in the International Baccalaureate program and I have also won a couple of art awards in my school district.”
“I was so happy when I was concertmaster of an orchestra for the first time last year. I had surpassed my upperclassman and even my teacher said I had potential and I worked so hard to stay in that seat.”
My ideal senior model would have any one of the above statements on her application, not once or twice but sometimes three or four times. Each one of these ladies have ambitious goals in life, powerful and strong minds, and a history of accomplishments to make me believe that anything they want to do- they will do. They’re hard workers and at the age of 16- or 17-years-old, I find that very inspiring!! Selfishly, I love having these ladies on my team because their youthful zeal for life pushes me to be a better adult. It keeps me grounded in the ‘anything is possible if I just will it and work hard’ frame of mind.
Although this blog post is written about all of my Senior Model Team it is my pleasure to introduce seven of my twelve Class of 2021 Senior Model Team! (The remaining five will appear in an upcoming blog post. ;D) I hope you all enjoy the highlights from their first model team photoshoot!
