(If you are a junior in high school – don’t miss my announcement at the bottom of this post!)
I drive by this building almost every time I go downtown, each time thinking “how fun it would be to do a photoshoot there?” It’s significantly outside the realm of a typical background I would choose to shoot: the bold color and shapes aren’t things I push myself to photograph very often. As I was preparing for my next Senior Model Team Photoshoot, I had about 5 different locations picked out from a classy stone building with black and white awnings to a few more tame murals around the downtown Tulsa area. I had my heart set on the classy upscale spot with the cool awnings and gold metal architectural accents; however, the placement of the sun forced me to change my mind and left me with this one option. The more I thought about using this building, the more I realized this was going to be a stretch for me-creatively. Which left me both nervous and excited! While it’s not at all my norm, using so much color, I knew my class of 2021 Senior Model Team would show up as rock stars and handle the challenge flawlessly. And they did!
I knew this spot would be perfect for them, as some really love color or have a more edgy side to their personalities. They loved the location from the moment we arrived, and the models couldn’t wait to pick her spot along the building. As far as I can tell, the building gets fresh murals every year as a part of a festival, sponsored by Habit, a local non-profit. (Click here for their Instagram or website!) After a wild dose of color, the team and I crossed the street to a nearby building with a huge white wall. While that was more my traditional style, I really love some of the mural photographs with the color! What are your favorite spots, who’s mural are you loving? Comment below!
The team’s first group photoshoot was in two parts (thank you, COVID). Click here to see images from their very first photoshoot. The theme celebrates white summer dresses, garden flowers, and green grass! And then click here to see images from the second group of ladies and their shoot.
In September, the ladies had their second group photoshoot, themed to celebrate their school pride in their senior year. The photoshoot is called: Home Team.
In a few weeks I will be opening my applications for the Class of 2022 Senior Model Team! If you are a current Tulsa area (Jenks, Broken Arrow, Owasso… all suburbs welcome) junior in high school and would like to be notified use my contact form to let me know!
