Class of 2020 Senior Model Team Photoshoot in Tulsa, Oklahoma

I promise, my heart skipped a beat as I clicked the ‘publish’ button with my mouse. The webpage reloaded and then displayed ‘live’ to show me that my Class of 2020 Senior Model Team Applications were now online. Year, after year, I anxiously await the date where I can start accepting these applications because I hope for ladies who are full of life, intelligent, active in their communities, kind, giving, becoming strong leaders, and, lastly, who will help me fall in love with photography all over again.

The following month my email inbox fills up with applications from current high school juniors who are preparing to conquer their senior year. These ladies want the most out of every opportunity that comes to them and they work very hard to achieve their dreams. One way or another, they find their way to my senior model application page, complete their application, and then wait for announcement day to find out if they have been selected for the team.

The hardest part for me is selecting who should be on my team because, for now, I can’t take every applicant, no matter how much I wish I could! Here are snippets from some of my Senior Models’ applications this year:

One is currently on track to become a “Distinguished Service Graduate and Distinguished Graduate at [her high school, which requires] two hundred hours of volunteering in the community and rigorous academic classes.”

“My favorite quote is ‘Always work hard, never give up, and fight until the end because it’s never really over until the whistle blows.‘ by Alex Morgan”

“I want to go to Spelman College to study English or Criminal Justice or Psychology. After my 4 years I want to go to law school to become a federal prosecutor.”

“My family is very important to me, it’s fairly large but that just means more love to go around… Band has become my home and added 250 more members to my family. I am thankful for all of the friends that became sisters and it made me the person I am today. I try to be my very best and treat everyone with courtesy.”

“This opportunity would allow me to showcase my makeup artistry skills that I will further improve in down the road. I also look forward to displaying the idea that an ‘athletic body’ type can be displayed as beautiful just as well as a ‘skinny’ body type can be beautiful.”

That’s only five of my nine models! Every single one of their applications is filled with amazing accomplishments, dreams for their futures and the desire to serve others. They describe themselves as: trustworthy, considerate, passionate, outgoing, friendly, and forgiving.

Before my model team application page went live, I asked my mom to look it over for me. She said, with a touch of concern in her voice, “Amanda, you are looking for a very high caliber of person.” My response was along the lines of: I am putting my trust in Him for bringing the types of ladies I am looking for to be my Senior Models. To which she told me “I am very proud of you!” And I grinned ear to ear!

My mom understands that the obvious reason for having a senior model team is that it’s a great marketing strategy, like tasting samples from a new bakery. However, more important to me is the opportunity to serve young ladies, who at the age of 17, are hustling with accomplishing amazing things and are serving others. They are working very hard to become tomorrow’s leaders.

It’s my great privilege to provide a little something extra for one of the best years of their lives, but it is also a decision that is a little selfish. Simply put, I want more people like these ladies in my life. Jim Rohn, entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker, famously said “We are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.“ My Senior Models inspire me and I long to stay inspired by what they are accomplishing from 2019 into 2020 and beyond!

This year’s senior model team was photographed over several days at Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Here are a few highlights from their photoshoots!! Enjoy!!
