A Snowy Woodward Park Proposal

detailed ring shot after their engagement proposal

Tulsa had just begun to thaw from a week of winter weather when Zach and Jaylynn’s special day arrived. Snow still blanketed parts of the ground, and where it had melted, the pathways had turned to soft, soggy gravel throughout the Park. But none of that could dampen the excitement and love in the air as Zach prepared to propose to Jaylynn at Woodward in the Rose Gardens.

A week prior, Zach and I had met up to plan out the perfect proposal location. With Jaylynn in mind, he carefully selected a spot he thought she would love. It was the sweetest thing—watching him consider every little detail to make sure this moment was perfect for her. We also selected a second spot he loved for portraits after the proposal and reviewed the plan to get Jaylynn there without suspicion.

When the day finally arrived, I made my way toward the chosen spot only to realize… none of us were getting there without rain boots. And I was certain Jaylynn hadn’t picked her fancy photoshoot and dinner date outfit with winter slush in mind. I heading back to the parking lot to meet up with Zach and Jaylynn as they arrived.

Jaylynn was discovering the special events of the evening in real-time, her excitement bubbling over. I heard her exclaim, “You hired someone?!?” as she turned to Zach for confirmation. He just smiled at her.

To keep the surprise intact, I needed to communicate some key details to Zach without tipping Jaylynn off. I started, “Zach, I know you picked out a few spots for your couples photoshoot with Jaylynn today from the location guide I sent you.” I wanted it to sound like we were just casually going over locations—nothing too suspicious. “I walked to all the spots we discussed, and unfortunately, the first one is completely covered in snow and not accessible.” I could see the wheels turning in his head—he knew that was his specially chosen proposal spot. “However,” I continued, “the good news is, the second spot you picked is perfect! We can access it from the backside, and there are sections without any snow.” He said okay with a smile, and I knew we were good to go. We’d just had an entire conversation without Jaylynn suspecting a thing. I felt like a Photographer-PI!

The rest of the shoot was absolute magic. Jaylynn was the most excited, joyful, elated, ecstatic, and giggly—every fun and happy word you could think of. Capturing the raw emotion, the genuine surprise, and the overwhelming happiness was an honor.

Documenting proposals is always special, but this one at Woodward Park—despite the unexpected winter obstacles—was truly unforgettable. Congratulations, Zach and Jaylynn! Your love story is just beginning, and I’m so grateful to have been a part of this beautiful chapter.
