Broken Arrow Wedding Day of Details at Greenleaf Barn

The officiant’s wife stood up in the middle of the ceremony and was handed the microphone. Katie had warned me that her and Dywren’s ceremony may have some unexpected moments. As she took the microphone, she explained that Katie and Dywren had come up with an understanding early on in their relationship. They have conversations they call “Making Lemonade”: when one of them needs to discuss something with the other but the intent is always to turn their topic of discussion from lemons into lemonade. As the officiant’s wife explained the ‘making lemonade’ idea to the wedding guests, Katie and Dywren stepped to the side of their alter, where a display was ready for them to ceremoniously make lemonade. They shared a glass together and then stood there cuddled up for a few minutes. Welcome to Katie and Dywren’s Broken Arrow wedding day at Greenleaf Barn, where details and symbolism were woven throughout their day and almost every thing had a beautiful meaning behind it.

Katie and Dywren took time for themselves; they took time to be a couple, and to be children of God… together. Right after they made lemonade during their wedding ceremony, they stood cuddled up for an unusually long period of time and it took me a minute to catch on (knowing them as well as I do, it probably took me too long to figure out what they were doing). They were praying. Just them and God. (This made me ball at their wedding and I am tearing up now as I write it!) In the middle of traditions of men, they took a few minutes to pause, get their hearts right with the Lord, and spend time in His presence. Another amazing detail that shows who they are and what matters most to them in their lives and their marriage!!

As you scroll through this blog, notice how modern wedding day customs were broken and the essence of Katie and Dywren spread into every point of their wedding day. I overheard Katie telling a wedding guest that the words hanging behind them at their alter are the fruits of the spirit. I mean, does it get anymore thoughtful?! Katie’s wedding day rings are her grandmother’s special blue ring, a bird ring that Katie wears everyday, and her wedding ring. From the absolutely unique and prized to the every day, Katie wanted to include it all. Katie and Dywren bought presents for each other and presented them the night before their wedding day, to their surprise, they each bought a Fossil watch for the other! Great minds think alike! The couple chose to have the bridesmaids carry uniquely framed photographs of them (from their engagement photoshoot) down the aisle instead of bouquets of flowers… a super sweet idea that I haven’t seen before!

Katie and Dywren,

You have so much love for each other and live for the Lord! I know through the good, bad, and great, you will spend each day thankful for one another and living for Him. I’d bet on you two vs. the world any and everyday! From the bottom of my heart, thank you, for giving me the honor of photographing your wedding day. Your wedding vows to each other were nothing short of absolutely beautiful and made me cry worse than I have at any wedding (thank goodness for autofocus!) A moment that will live on with me forever is after your husband and wife portraits, we walked back to the reception and I leaned over to show Katie the last image that I had taken. And you looked at me, Katie, with so much meaning and wonder in your eyes and just said “thank you. Seriously, thank you.” Amid the chaos of the reception, you zeroed in on that one image and that was the most meaningful ‘thank you’ I’ve ever had in my life. In that moment, I knew what it was like to be one of your tribe. It was a taste of the immense love and tenderness you have for those in your life. So, THANK YOU! I genuinely hope you enjoy the few highlights from your wedding day in this blog!!!

The images that Katie’s bridesmaids were carrying? Those were a few prints from their engagement photoshoot at Gathering Place in Tulsa, Oklahoma!
