Why You Should Book Hair and Makeup for Your Photoshoot

Planning to have your professional hair and makeup done can be a scary thought. And for something as important as a photoshoot, it can be more than what some would like to think about. But it’s honestly the best thing you can do for yourself on photoshoot day to prepare for your photoshoot!

If you don’t have professionals and choose to do your own styling, you’re running around trying to make your look a little “extra” for the camera while still looking like yourself. You might be hot and a little sweaty because, although you budgeted enough time to get ready, you’re somehow in a rush.

Or, you could be relaxing in a chair with professionals who are expertly using their talents to create an 11/10 look for you! You’ve done your research on what type of style you want, told them what your normal and fancy looks are like, provided feedback, and now you get to sit back and relax. These ladies have booked you for time slots that provide you with more than enough time to have your hair and makeup done and get to your photoshoot on time. Perfection.

As a photographer, I can always tell the difference between clients who have chosen the professional artist route and those who have taken the do-it-yourself route. Styling that professionals do can appear over the top in real life, but to the camera… it sings! Your makeup stays perfect for the duration of your photoshoot, and your hair doesn’t need as much fussing with after the Oklahoma wind blows.

Although professional hair and makeup are not required, I highly suggest planning to have at least one or both services scheduled for your photoshoot. It affects the overall look of your photos more than you can imagine!

My biggest pro tip: Make sure you LOVE the way you look before you leave the salon. I’ll be photographing you in natural light (more than likely), so you want to make sure that you love the way you look in that type of lighting. If you need a change, most artists expect that and will happily adjust something to better fit your vision.

Here are some ladies that I’ve personally worked with before for my makeup or beauty appointments and highly recommend!!!

Megan Berven – I see Megan routinely for beauty appointments. She’s a wonderful makeup artist that also provides a variety of services for your skin care needs! She recommends working with Brooke Styles, and in the past has been able to team up with her for hair.
