Senior Photoshoot on Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma

The sun had just finished setting and her Senior Photoshoot Experience needed to come to an end. Tyla and I had rescheduled her photoshoot a few times for a variety of reasons: the last one being the worldwide pandemic that forced America to shutdown for the better part of 6 weeks. Tyla, her sweet mom Teresa, and I were busy having so much fun photographing her senior pictures, I couldn’t believe the last two hours went as fast as they did. As Tyla and I walked back to the parking lot at Woodward, I thought about the young lady I had met over a year ago. She was a much different person than who she is today.

Tyla applied to be a Senior Model for my class of 2020 team and her application caught my eye the first time I read it. Here was a junior who was looking at the year that was ahead of her and the life she wanted to live after it. She was excited about the coming year and the goals she wanted to achieve. More importantly, she anticipated the person she wanted to become. After getting to know Tyla, I learned that I had met her right after she had made some major positive changes in her life. Listening to her talk about who she was before and who she wanted to become was like listening to an inspirational ‘here’s how I changed my life’ story they make movies about. A year ago, I knew she was a fighter. Today, she has become the person she described in her model team application.

Tyla,

Watching you transform into the beautiful person you are today has been an absolute honor and I could not be more proud of you! The things you have accomplished in a year, the people you have helped, and the journey you are on… it’s all incredible! I can only hope that the University of Oklahoma is ready for you; you’re going to do great and amazing things there, and this is just the start to the rest of your life ma’am! I am so thankful that you were on my model team and that I got to know you. Your senior photoshoot was a fantastic way to come out of quarantine and celebrate the end of your senior year in high school. I hope that you fall in love with the highlights from your Senior Photoshoot Experience!

Tyla’s Senior Photoshoot Experience started on Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma to honor her and the history of the city of Tulsa {has-remove}. The detail shots you see are from the immediate area surrounding the only surviving building from the 1921 riots: the Vernon Chapel AME Church. After spending some time in the Greenwood District, we finished Tyla’s Ultimate Photoshoot at Woodward Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Although the city facilities are not yet open due to the pandemic, the park gates were open and the grounds were filled with both high school and college aged seniors who were celebrating their achievements.

Tyla was a rock star during the Senior Model Team Photoshoot too! I adore her long pink flowy dress! She looks like a goddess!

Caroline was also on my Class of 2020 Senior Model Team and her photoshoot was also at Woodward Park!
