They were standing back, proudly watching their two little ones walk around the row of irises, smelling them, “gently” touching them, and talking about the line of beautiful spring blooms. One of my favorite things about photographing families is watching and documenting them simply spending time being a family. For the Potter family’s spring family photoshoot at Woodward Park, after I captured the classic posed family images, they played, ran around, and investigated the flowerbeds in the park. Somewhat selfishly, I led the littlest one of the bunch to a line of irises that bordered the field of grass they had been playing in. I think it made for some great interactive family fun as mom and dad were able to relax and have fun with their children while also having the experience documented.

When Mrs. Potter contacted me the first time to inquire about a family photoshoot, she kindly let me know that she is also a photographer! Immediately I thought, ‘should I be honored or nervous?’ I took it as a very high compliment that someone who knows the technical side of photography, and the time that is invested into the artistic side, would see quality in my work and want that for their family photoshoot!
