Jenks Senior Keely

We sat there, listening to the water hit the car and impatiently waiting for the rain to stop. For as much as I was willing to wait out the rain cloud (that had popped out of nowhere), I also knew that the countdown until sunset raced on. Would we run out of time waiting before the sun set? The forecast was for light rain in the morning and mostly clouds during the afternoon, except for the hours just before sunset where we might see a few peeks of sun through the clouds. What this Jenks Senior really wanted from her Senior Photoshoot Experience was the glow of sunset in a beautiful field of tall grass.

Keely had researched photographers and had seen my work from her friends at school; she knew about the golden hour and had her Senior Photography Experience completely planned out. But when her time came, I could see the enthusiasm leave her face as the clouds rolled in and the rain came pouring down. This was the opposite of what she had planned, hoped for, and dreamed of. Looking to the horizon, we could see a break in the rain cloud and as soon as the rain was light enough, Keely’s mom and I covered her with a jacket and umbrella and walked to our next shooting location.

Keely’s senior photoshoot started by the historic downtown bank building in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Seizing each break in the 20 mile an hour wind gusts, her photoshoot started off really strong and we began to have fun! That’s when the first security guard of the night came out of the building to inform us of the rules while we were visiting his beautiful building as a shooting location. A little while later, an off-duty guard stopped to tell Keely that she was gorgeous (which she is) and for us to have fun!

Our last downtown spot became my favorite when a grumpy looking security guard came out of a different building and asked where my permit was. Before I could answer, his face turned to a huge grin and he laughed as he said, “I give all the photographers a hard time, you don’t need a permit! Have fun!” Keely, her mom Michelle, and I looked at each other and just laughed. He really had us going for a minute there and I started to think ‘I’ve never seen so many security guards during a photoshoot in my life!‘

Ending her photoshoot in the tall grass fields at Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma was Keely’s dream for her Senior Photoshoot Experience. Eventually the rain cloud moved just enough that I could photograph her in the glowy-est of light, giving her a smile that couldn’t be hidden.

Keely (and sweet momma Michelle),

Thank you for waiting out the rain so that I could capture a few dreamy photos of Keely in the glow of the setting sun. Even though your Senior Photoshoot Experience was abnormally eventful from the extreme wind, unexpected rain, and all of the “friends” we made, I had so much fun photographing you! You are as beautiful inside as you are on the outside. (Plus, you work for one of the most wonderful places on earth, so you were bound to be a super awesome person!!) You may not have noticed, but just as we were pulling out of the Gilcrease parking lot, a fourth “friend” came out to protect the cars we were talking behind. Here are just a few highlights from your Senior Photoshoot Experience, I hope you enjoy them!
